The only other option is to find a village island, which are extremely rare. The only way to survive on a survival island without trees is to find a dungeon underground, and quick. The tree islands are less common, but when playing a survival island seed, they're a must. These three include sand barges (all sand, no trees), dirt islands, and tree islands.
